One Year Down, More Healthy Building Dreams Yet To Achieve!

It’s officially been one year - one year since I kicked off an unexpected experiment, started a design firm, and bet on the future of healthy building. It’s also been an unexpected success. Not a big success, not bigger than expected, just different than expected.

That’s not to say it hasn’t been a enjoyable journey so far. It’s been a learning journey, a one-day-at-a-time kind of journey, and one that is still on-going. So here’s what ADG has been up to for the past year. It’s not a long list, but it’s solid start and something of which I’m genuinely proud.

2020 August-December

  • ADG starts with one client and a big dream. By the end of the year, we’ve developed a conceptual masterplan and started the ball rolling on a multi-phase development. That project is still ongoing and I’m still excited by the prospects it brings. Hopefully I’ll have more to share in the coming months.

2021 January-August

  • We complete the Lunden House Masterplan, a planning project for a 100+ year old home in Minneapolis. Check out the Projects page to take a look at the masterplan and images from Phase I.

  • ADG partners with Brick and Mortar out of Duluth for several projects that are currently in construction: a new taproom in Superior, WI, a small office remodel in Duluth, MN, predesign work for the City of Duluth, and a new restaurant also in Duluth (ADG did the specification for that one).

Upcoming Work

  • The Lunden House project continues through Phase I; more photos and images to come.

  • We have three projects in the works - don’t forget to come back and see what’s new!

That’s six projects in one year. Some are incomplete, some are very small, others are still burgeoning with possibilities. With the variety of people I’ve met and the projects I’ve had the opportunity to work on, one thing is always true: everyone likes healthy materials. It’s a triple-bottom-line win for all parties, especially as more and more manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and owners begin to see the benefit (and feel the pressure) of planning for Climate Change. Every month, I see more products getting certified as a toxin-free material and, thankfully, I see more products like this being produced in the United States. That’s a win for both healthy materials and decarbonization.

If this is your first time looking at ADG or your first time considering the benefits of healthy materials, hop over to our resources page and explore how and why a healthy building is a sound investment. And when you’re ready, give me a call and we’ll talk about the ecological and monetary benefits of heathy buildings and how ADG can help you cultivate a healthy space.
